Logo Design process

Personal Logo: Skyfish Art

For my personal logo I already knew approximately what I wanted, the symbolism behind it has formed over years of background noise that I won't go into here. The earliest iteration is from primary school, a C and an L interlocked (my initials). I kept that C and L in my design and introduced the Skyfish that I am now known for. Initially I was using the pure sketch for a logo, I wanted to embrace the rough. Peer pressure convinced me to vectorize it however, this was before I felt comfortable with the modern-sleek-flat-gloss seemingly curated by apple. The logo reads much better now, I have to admit, as it is very detailed for a logo, but I'm happy with this for now. I intended it to be primarily a watermark, so some complexity is desirable for me.

Logo Design for LRC

I was approached by the client to create a logo for general use, and given colour scheme, previous marketing material and a mascot to work from.

Completed Logo Design.
Below is some of the process behind this Logo, hundreds of thumbnails. The design was settled primarily by the clients decisions and a tight dialogue.

I primarily worked to come up with a design that echoed the former mascot and the name by incorporating the image of a rat in the logo, abstracting as I went along. Meanwhile I also tried to incorporate shapes that would communicate the complex technical field that LRC conducts its business in. The client selected thumbnail nr 11 for further development and eventually became the end result.

Godus fanart

22Cans have started a Kickstarter campaign for a game called Godus. It's going to be a combination of the best elements of past games, Black & White, Dungeon keeper and Populous. A rebirth for the god game genre pretty much guaranteed to be fun. I'm very excited to see this game get created, and backers get to affect the development! So it is us making the silly ideas this time around and not Peter Molyneux!
You can have a look over at the kickstarter page here Godus Kickstarter page.

When they started talking about the familiars to possibly appear in the game, I wanted to chip in with how I imagined they look like and what kind of thing I might want them to do, so I drew up this little doodle of Huginn and Muninn as Molyneux suggested Odins ravens as pets. They have a yin yan thing going on with the colours, and one has a thin halo in case you can't tell. I'd like to encourage these birds behaviour individually so one could end up looking scary and the other kind. Imagine one sitting on your godly hand (if we will have a hand, I would prefer a hand)

False Awakening initial artwork

Due to the time limit of the initial deadline for my videogame project, I'm going about the creation of assets and other materials somewhat untraditionally. It is more of a freeform art exploration than the strict and sensible concepting I'm used to from formal projects. You know the one: draw a bunch of concept thumbnails  pick the best one, polish. I have to create enough assets to initially have a complete game world, so my first tries are also my final tries, and my accidents are all happy. When the uni project ends, I'm free to revise and recreate anything for the actual making of this game however. I find  this laid back creation process quite liberating and enjoyable.

Dream avatar

This is a series of doodles where I attempt to narrow down the shape of a creature in my dream (I was the creature) in the dream, I called it "skyfish pod" as it doesn't resemble my skyfish in any way, but has it's properties and personality. The shapes of things in my dream is not set in stone. They differ from scene to scene, it took me a long time to discover this fact as ordinarily we think of dreams like a movie. Only when I started drawing "phsyical" dream locations on paper, did I realize that all the information was conflicting. I concluded that dreams do not consist of a 3D simulated space, but of ideas that we interpret into a setting, loosly. I have many different still images in my head that together make up this skypod. In one scene i had human legs and clothes, and in another I had a long body and one tail, for every "scene" the facts would change, but they were all trivial facts. The figure in the right hand corner can be considered a sort of average, or true form of what I feel the dream was trying to render, and were more often than not the shape "seen" in the dream. The figure had elements from creatures in videogames (panzer dragoon) dolphins, and past drawings I have done lately.

Brainmooshing my logo

The progress on my logo/watermark for putting in my works from now on. I don't know what I want to do from here, I'm fairly happy with the elements it is made of (skyfish, skyfish eel form, and my initials) I need some outside feedback or maybe a completely different concept. I will be putting links in all my work from now on though.

28. Purple Prose

Wikipedia told me purple prose is overly flowery writing detrimental to the text. I thought I'd represent that with  visual art by having a simple childlike drawing of a flower and then fill it with details, to show that no matter how much I spruce it up the basic shape of the flower would still be naive, but my plan failed since it ended up looking rather funky.

24. Blue moon

This one was quite spontaneous, as many of the later ones were, but I seem to have discovered a comfortable zone in my doodlework that I enjoy doing.
